Welcome to Ignite Parents!
On behalf of the Parent Involvement Committee of the Avon Maitland District School Board I would like to thank everyone for attending our first ever Ignite Parents event!
Our goal was to engage, inspire and enlighten parents. On Wednesday, May 2nd, 2012, we brought together passionate educators, parents and a student, for an exciting evening of presentations in the field of education. From mathematics to the arts, social media and technology to the global classroom, our passionate presenters shared with us some of the many innovative and creative ways our students are being engaged in their learning. Parents heard about a Restorative Justice program, the importance of stress management, tips for the transition into high school, instilling the learning passion in our children, finding our own inner student, and that social media doesn’t have to be a four letter word!
Parents also heard about the importance of being involved in their children’s learning, both at home and at school. When we work together as partners in education…parents, students, teachers, our schools and communities…we all benefit. Because together, we share a common goal. Our children’s education. Now that’s inspiring!
Enlighten us, but make it quick!
On Wednesday, May 2nd, 2012, at the Arden Park Hotel in Stratford, Ontario, we brought together passionate educators, parents and a student, for an exciting evening of presentations in the field of education. We challenged them to “enlighten us, but make it quick”. And that they did! Here’s the itinerary of our exciting evening.
- 6:30pm – Doors open. Enjoy refreshments, a cash bar, live music and browse the various community displays - maybe pick up a pamphlet or two!
- 7:00pm – Presentations begin – there might even be a surprise video!
- 7:45pm – Intermission. Enjoy more refreshments and check out the displays.
- 8:15pm – Final presentations of the evening and your chance to win some fabulous door prizes!
- 9:00pm – End of presentations and evening wrap up but feel free to mingle, chat and say hello!
